In English Grammar Regular verbs and irregular verbs are very important topics to learn. Definition and some examples are here explaining. 


Regular Verbs

Definition: Regular verbs that form the past tense by adding the letter "d" or "ed" at the end. It is the usual rule for forming simple past tense and past participle. 

 

Example: 

Jump - Jumped

Paint - Painted

Play - Played

Bake - Baked

Work - Worked

Love - Loved

Laugh - Laughed

Accept - Accepted

Avoid - Avoided

Confuse -Confused

Destroy - Destroyed

Develop - Developed

Fool - Fooled

 

Example of Regular Verbs in Sentences:

 

He advised me to slow down.

I played football.

He watched movie in the morning.

 

Irregular Verbs

Definition: Irregular verbs are those that don’t follow the normal rule of adding “d”, “ed” “ied” to form their past simple/participle. Irregular verbs have a variety of spellings.

 

 

Example: 

Arise - Arose

Awake - Awoke

Bear - Bore

Begin - Began

Blow - Blew

Build - Built

Buy - Bought

Burn - Burnt

Bring - Brought

Come - Came

Dig - Dug

Draw - Drew

 

Example of Irregular Verbs in Sentences:

 

Mr. Rahman built his new building.

We beat the home team yesterday.

I began to work early in this morning.
