Grameen Bank had introduced higher education loan in 1997 for the children of their families with a vision for pursuing highest level of education. Sanjay De a loan taker describes his story of taking loan from Grammen Bank.
My father, Mr. Charan De is a betel farmer and this is the only form of our income. It has been very tough for my father to carry all the expenses of our studies. My brother and I were doing very well in our studies from early childhood. Fortunately mother became a member of Grameen Bank in the year 1993. After passing the SSC exam, both of us were admitted in Bashkhali College,

Chittagong and passed the HSC examination successfully. Thus, it was very hard to resist plans for higher education.

However, my parents were very concerned about where we would get enough money to afford the cost of living in the city. Then the Grameen Bank Branch Manager conveyed the most exciting news: that Grameen bank would provide education loan for both of us. Next year both of us were offered the opportunity to study at Chittagong University with an education loan from Grameen Bank. Now I`m studying Biochemistry and my elder brother is studying Botany at Chittagong University. Since then we have had no financial obstacles and we have not looked back.
